Good digestion and elimination will have such a positive impact on your health inside and out. The digestive system interacts with all other body systems and effects your mood, hormones and immunity.

Proper elimination of waste products is key to health and eating and drinking to enhance this will have an enormous effect on how you look and feel. You will find it easier to keep weight off, your skin will glow and your energy levels will improve.

1. Love your microbes

There are several important beneficial bacteria that should always be present for optimal intestinal health and function. Good bacteria helps us digest food and absorb nutrients while also playing a big part in immunity. Try to think a little more about what your friendly bacteria would like to eat. Try new foods, microbes like change too. Include fibre, prebiotic and probiotic foods such as leeks, onions, garlic, bananas, oatmeal, good quality dark chocolate, microalgae (spirulina and chlorella), miso, tempeh, kimchi, kefir, kombucha. And plain, live yoghurt. See Living Nutrition, Terranova Life Drink, Marcus Rohrer, The Beauty Chef.

2. Eat Fibre

Eating a high fibre diet, both soluble and insoluble will keep food moving through your intestines. Including soluble fibre such as root vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains and insoluble fibre such as dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers.

3. Drink Water

Drinking water between meals will help dissolve fats and soluble fibre and will encourage elimination. Just plain, still water is best.

4. Exercise

Aim to exercise for at least 20 minutes three times a week. This increases blood flow to your organs and stimulates muscles in the Gastrointestinal tract. Yoga is very beneficial in massaging organs and helping food to keep moving through the digestive system.
