Rosacea is quite common, with some estimates suggesting up to 1 in 10 people may have it. It is most common in adults between the ages of 30 – 50, with women being affected three times as much as men and also those with fair skin. It is a chronic skin disorder in which the nose and cheeks are abnormally red and may even be covered in pimples or skin flushing may occur at times.

 

What are the causes?

Most cases are associated with the flow of sebum although many other factors are implicated which include:

  •  Gastrointestinal disorders
  •  Infection
  •  Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Weather conditions
  • Exercise
  •  Stress
  • Certain foods
  • B vitamin deficiencies

There are periods when it seems to be bad and others when the condition is less severe but it can greatly affect how people feel about themselves and their confidence.

 

What can you do?

  • Eat plenty of cold pressed oils, oily fish, nuts and seeds to provide to reduce inflammation
  • Eat plenty of brightly coloured vegetables for their antioxidant content
  • Eat pre-soaked brown rice and leafy green vegetables for B vitamins and minerals
  • Nuts and Pumpkin seeds are great sources of zinc for healing and immune function.
  • Drink plenty of water and herbal teas each day
  • Avoid foods that cause flushing of the face such as coffee, alcohol and spicy foods
  • Avoid foods that contain trans fats such as margarine as well as fried foods.
  • Eliminate refined sugars from the diet
  • Avoid milk and milk products
  • Give yourself time each day to RELAX and unwind
